How to play Grymheld
Grymheld is a free browser strategy game about building a village, raising an army and conquering a living world map. Here's everything you need to get from your first log-in to your first victory — in about five minutes, on desktop or mobile.
- 1
Create your village and pick a race
Sign up in seconds and you're dropped into your first village on the world map. Choose from four races — Humans, Elves, Orcs or Goblins — each with its own units and playstyle, from disciplined lines to cheap ambush swarms.
- 2
Build your economy
You produce five resources — Wood, Stone, Iron, Food and Gold — even while you're offline. Upgrade your Sawmill, Quarry, Iron Mine, Farm and Market, and expand your Warehouse so production never overflows.
- 3
Raise the Keep and train an army
Level your Keep to unlock military buildings, then train troops. Balance offence, defence and speed, and keep an eye on food: every soldier eats, whether at home or on the march.
- 4
Recruit and equip your General
Once your Keep reaches level 2 you unlock the General — a hero who levels up and wears looted equipment. Deploy him on attacks or to defend a zone for a real power boost, and grow his gear from raid loot.
- 5
Raid the map and hold zones
Scout and attack AI villages (all the way up to the Fort Karrath boss) and rival players. Capture map zones for production bonuses — but expect other players to contest them.
- 6
Follow quests and install on your phone
Quests, daily challenges and a login streak guide your early game and reward you. Add Grymheld to your home screen as a PWA so you can play — and get notified when armies return — from anywhere.
A few tips for a strong start
- ✓Keep production and storage balanced — capped resources are wasted resources.
- ✓Don't hoard troops at home; raiding AI villages is the fastest way to grow.
- ✓Deploy your General where it matters — a stationed General makes a zone far harder to take.
- ✓Check the difficulty tiers on the map and the Raid List before you commit an army.
Frequently asked questions
Is Grymheld hard to learn?
No. A guided quest line walks you through your first buildings, your first army and your first raid, so you learn by playing. You can be raiding within a few minutes.
How long does a session take?
As long or short as you like. Because production and troop travel happen in real time, you can make a few decisions in a couple of minutes on your phone and come back later.
What's the goal of the game?
Grow a thriving economy, build a powerful army, level your General, climb the ranking and conquer ever-tougher villages — including the Fort Karrath boss — while defending your own.
Do I need to spend money?
Never. Grymheld is completely free with no pay-to-win. Everything is earned through play.
